Siem Reap may be known as the access point for Angkor Wat, with a reputation as a lively place for backpackers, but it’s also an interesting city in its own right, and a great place to while away a few days soaking up Khmer culture. You could easily spend all three days exploring the Angkor complex, but the city itself is full of local arts and crafts markets where you can buy straight from the artisans. Siem Reap boasts a thriving cafe culture, an emerging craft beer scene, and all manner of things to eat, from riverside street food to upmarket takes on traditional dishes, as well as international fare cooked by homesick expats from all over the place.
