Oaxaca de Juarez (to give it its full name) is one of Mexico’s greatest places to eat. Capital of the state of Oaxaca, it is the heart of a region famed for its produce and revered for its cooking. To spend three days in Oaxaca is to spend three days eating and drinking, with both boozers and tee-totallers well catered for. But it’s also an artsy and creative city, and one with a long and interesting history of political protest. Alternate between traditional and modern through a mix of shops and galleries, street food and restaurants trying to push the boundaries of Oaxacan cuisine.
