Mix, batch, dosh!
It's all about the money, money, money; it's all about the price tag...
Anyone who’s read this Substack for more than about twenty minutes will have picked up on the fact that I enjoy a good cocktail. I’m happy to pay for an excellent product and service, because I respect the time and skill involved in mixology, whether I’m ordering a century-old classic or something weird and wonderful dreamt up that night. But there’s a growing trend in the industry that really gets on my nerves, and because I love me a good rant…
I’m of the opinion that batched cocktails cheat customers. A quick search of Reddit threads on the subject has shown me that as a customer, I’m not alone in that stance, while among mixologists there’s a fairly even split between those who think batching allows them to provide a better service and those who think that it robs the customer of an essential part of the cocktail experience.
