When I was in my adolescence, Manchester was very far away. Literally, when I was reading about the city’s music scene from my childhood bedroom in Washington DC, but figuratively when I was back in the UK visiting grandparents, poring over the weekly music magazines that used to be Britain’s pride and joy.
