28 HongKong St, Singapore

An oldie but still a (very) goodie.

While it’s often described as a hidden bar, given that it’s got the address as its name you shouldn’t struggle to find 28 HongKong St. Sure, it’s behind a rather unassuming door for a swanky bar, and you might not expect to find it opposite a gym, but it’s exactly where it’s supposed to be on a clearly marked street in one of the world’s better organised cities.

28HKS (as it shall henceforth be known) was the first winner of the 50 Best list’s Best Bar in Asia award, back in 2016, and as you can imagine it was an utter nightmare place to be — or to try and get into — for the next few years. Nearly a decade on and the scene has moved on but the bar remains, and now that the in-crowd have forgotten about it 28HKS is one of the best places in Singapore for a chilled out cocktail and a quiet chat.
